Home Business Scams – What You Need To Know

by David Gates

For the average individual, the prospect of working out of your own home and earning a few extra bucks – or making a career out of staying in your private domain and doing some sort of work from your home office – is a tantalizing offer. Many people have sought out these types of opportunities, and many entrepreneurs with good business ideas have managed to earn a living staying at home and working on a weekly basis. However, there is also a huge number of scams found on the Internet that are intended only to bilk money from people who want to stay home and make a few bucks.

As is the case, many people who hope to earn using these home businesses, are fooled. The people who build scams are often in search of quick money. So they make them buy stuff and pay for bogus services that instead of the honest home businessmen getting rich some other scammers does.

One of the first scams of this type made people send envelopes containing fliers on behalf of someone else. That someone in this way gains customers and leaves the unsuspecting middle men out of the monetary loop. The reward which is sometimes a dollar an envelope never reaches the home businessmen.

Another popular form of these home business scams is the promise of earnings as a person capable of doing medical billing and coding. Firms entice you with the promise that buying their software will instantly make you a desirable target for medical outfits to outsource their billing to you, which can supposedly earn you tons of money. Some outfits even give you lists of prospective clients in your area for a fee.

The thing that people need to know that buying these software which cost hundreds of dollars, will get them no work. Firstly, you need to have a license and training for medical coding and billing. And also medical outfits dont give this work to lone individuals.

Another home business is the one where a person buys a assembly kit and assembles the product for a company and sends it back in return of payment. Not only is this time consuming but the assembled product is often rejected and a lot of money and time goes down the drain.

A fourth type and rapidly growing category of home business scams is the data entry and home typing field. While there are many reputable data entry firms that operate on the internet, there are just as many that promise you money for filling out forms and spreadsheets that will leave you out in the cold when it comes time to pay you for your work. These firms offer high payouts, but reject your work as not up to some standard and cause you not to be paid for your efforts. This field is also a popular area for legitimate businesses to operate, so be aware of which firms are reputable and which ones are not.

So the person seeking a viable home business will have to do his own homework regarding which company is legitimate and which is not. But one thing is sure, even if you are working from the comfort of your home you will have to work hard.
